Students take out candle-light march in Shimla seeking justice for Delhi gang rape victim

About 200 students belonging to various schools of this capital town today took out a candle-light march at the historic Ridge Grounds, demanding capital punishment to the six culprits who raped 23 year old paramedical student in a moving bus in New Delhi last Sunday.

The students, mostly girls, carrying burning candles in their hands took out the march through the Ridge Grounds before it culminated near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Shimla. The protest was organised by Ms. Shailza, a girl student of the town. The students were accompanied by Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Sanjay Chauhan along with his staff who expressed their anguish over the apathy towards women in the country. They suggested for a stringent law and its implementation in letter and spirit. The protesters demanded capital punishment to all the accused involved in the heinous and brutal gang rape. They also held prayers for the fast recovery of the gangrape victim who is fighting for her life in Safdarjung Hospital Delhi.

Local people surrounded by the protesters also joined the students.
