Protesting SFI students cane-charged

Shimla: Adding to the ongoing strife between a the Hiamchal Pradesh University, on Saturdau SFI activists were lathicharged in front of the Reporting Room on the Mall where they had assembled  to offer court arrest against the expulsion of three SFI activist from HPU campus recently. They were shouting slogans against the university administration and the government in wake of their ongoing agitation.
Later, seven SFI supporters were arrested by the police for violation of Section 144 of IPC for shouting slogans in prohibited area. The protesting SCA and SFI members stated that they had assembled peacefully to offer mass arrest but the police beat them up mercilessly without any reason.

SCA president Shikha Chauhan said the police even cane-charged the girls and no women constable was present on the spot. However, Shimla police chief SP RM Sharma denied all charges and said the agitating students were not ready to step back even after half-an-hour they of being asked to do so by the police. He added that some of them even lay down in front of the vehicle jeep that was taking the seven arrested SFI activists and tried to obstruct its way. Shikha said nearly 35 people were injured seriously in the incident. However, Sharma refuted the charges.
The seven arrested students are Naresh, Surender, Mahender, Munish, Neeraj, Sanjeev and Jasveer.
