Snowfall freezes Himachal as mercury falls further

Heavy Snowfall in last three days has left most part of the state freezing and mercury has disrupted normal lives in many parts of Himachal Pradesh.

Keylong, district headquarters of Lahaul & Spiti was coldest in this season as mercury receded to minus 14.2 degrees and has recorded 4 cm snowfall in last 24 hrs. Tourist resort Manali got 10 cm snow and reached lowest at minus 6.6 degrees, meanwhile Kalpa in Kinnaur recorded 5 cm snowfall at minus 7.8 degrees.

Shimla got very light snowfall and recorded a temperature of minus 0.7 degrees, and tourist resort Dalhousie reached minus 1.1 degrees. Other places like Kufri & Narkanda got 3 to 4 cm of snow respectively.

Una & Sundarnagar recorded zero degrees each and Mandi recorded two degrees, respectively.Water supply has been disrupted in many parts of this capital town as the temperature reached subzero. Road linking Chopal, Rohru, Jubbal and Kotkhai were snow bound for last few days but saw movement of light vehicle today morning.

Emergency helicopter services remained suspended for many days due to this inclement weather but clearing of fog in the foothills is likely to give respite to people with speeding up traffic and reducing cold waves. Metrological office has forecast another spell of rain and snowfall in the state capital and the areas surrounding it.
