Tourist resorts experiences first snowfall in Himachal

All the major tourist resorts of Himachal Pradesh experienced snowfall in last 24 hours at Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Narkanda, Mcleodganj and Bhagsunag whereas rainfall lashed rest of the parts of the state tightening the grip of cold wave.

Shimla, Kufri and Narkanda were covered by eight to ten centimeter thick snow when people came out of their houses this morning.

There is a report of snowfall from Manali, Mcleodganj and Bhagsunag in Dharamshala. Heavy snowfall is experienced on the high reaches like Dhauladhar, Rohtang Pass, Lady of Keylong, Seven Sister hills, Goshal hills, Kaza and Keylong snapping apart the important roads.

The insistent rainfall was lashing down streams of the state as there was report of heavy down pour from most of the districts since last 24 hours as weather was foggy and it was overcast in the state.

The power, telephone and road communication were badly disrupted by the rain or snowfall in the state. However, vehicular traffic was on National Highway 21 and 22 between Chandigarh to Manali and between Ambala to Kalka.

Number of tourists were rushing towards major tourist destination after report of snowfall two day ahead of Christmas.

The current rain was considered beneficial for growing crops in ‘Rabi’ season and containing and breaking the long dry spell in the state. Meanwhile, cold waves have increased in the state flowing snowfall in the high reaches as the day temperature is likely to plunge further.

The Met office forecast that rain or snow is likely to occur at few places in the state during next 24 hours owing to western disturbance in the region.
