Kangra: Soon Himachal Pradesh will have its own fashion institute in Chheb, in Kangra district. The foundation stone for the 13th (in the country) National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was laid down in Chheb on January 21, this year. It’ll be the second in North India after Delhi.

The NIFT at Chheb would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore.

Himachal Pradesh is rich in many traditional woollen costumes, which could be a part of fashion technology and the institute is expected to popularise the same in the international fashion world. Besides, Himachal jewellery like Gokhru, Tungal, Kanbalu etc too would be popularised.

According to a press release, the curriculum at NIFT, Chheb would allow students to easily blend into a global network, as well as acquire a greater appreciation of local industry trends. The multi-disciplinary and broad-based structure aims at an all-round development of students.
