Shimla: All business establishments, kiosks and shops remained closed on the Mall Road, Lakker Bazaar, Lower Bazaar and other markets in Shimla following the one-day bandh call given by Dharam Rakash Munch, a joint front of various pro-Hindu organizations, to protest against an incident of cow slaughter on Thursday in Choppal sub-division.
“The rulings BJP, supported the bandh call, though government institutions anyway were closed due to a gazetted holiday, but all essential services were kept apart from the agitation,” BJP state chief Khimi Ram told HimVani on phone. He said that BJP condemned the alleged incident of slaughter as their party considers cow as a pious animal.
Hundreds of pro-Hindu activists participated in a procession lead by former BJP state president and local MLA Suresh Bahrdwaj, convener of Dharam Rakash Munch Bal Ram Sharma and BJP Shimla city president and vice-chairmen of Himachal Urban Development Authority Ganesh Dhutt.
Meanwhile, Nerwa and Chopal local markets also remained closed in the wake of Shimla bandh. Not report of untoward incidents was reported from anywhere so far.
