Election Commission to declare dates of HP Assembly soon: ECI

The Election Commission of India today reviewed the preparation of upcoming Assembly election in Himachal Pradesh during a high-level meeting held today and declared to come up with the election scheduled soon using Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system in the election.

 

After the meeting held with Deputy Commissioners, Additional Deputy, Commissioners and Magistrates and Superintendent of Police at hotel Peterhof today Senior Deputy Commissioner of ECI Mr Umesh Sinha, and Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena addressed media persons. He said that state officer trained for the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system software in this workshop and meeting by six officers of election commissions and IT experts.

 

Replying to media query Mr Sinha said that Commission would soon declare the scheduled of the election while direction has been passed to Deputy Commissioners who are district electoral officers in their assembly segments to initiate the addition and deletion of voter lists and produced amended voter lists. Urging media persons to create awareness about the VVPT system and encouraging the voter to ensure heavy poll in the assembly election Mr. Sinha said that workshop was held here since 0930 hrs to 1430 hrs to inform the state officers about the use of VVPAT system in the poll.

 

He said that elections would be held with voting machines that have a paper trail attached, the Election Commission first time in the state. He hoped that after considering the demand of various political parties to allow counting of some percentage of VVPAT slips in addition to the usual counting process would instil confidence among voters and political parties. Beside the work shop, election commissioner team also interacted with the every district administrators and police officers to review the election preparations.

 

The Election Commissions also passed some directions to the respective administrations to conduct the preparation of elections. Director IT of Election Commission of India Mr. Kushal Pathak Director (IT) and COO of IT firm, Preet Chandoke gave deliberation on the use of VVPAT during the workshop.
