Ace Flautist Pt Ronu Majumdar enthralls audience at historic Gaiety Theatre

    Ace Flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar performed at historic Gaiety Theater in Shimla last evening enthralling the audience during third day of Shimla Classical Music Festival 2016. Pt. Majumdar began his play with Raga Jaijaiwanti and was accompanied by Pt. Ramakant Mishra on Tabla, who is the  son of famous Hindustani vocal classical maestro Pt. Chhanilal Mishra.

     

    Pt. Ronu Majumdar began his music education under the guidance of his father Dr. Bhanu Majumdar, late Pt. Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale and finally the revered Pt. Vijay Raghav Rao. He was also fortunate to receive training from his grand guru Pt. Ravi Shankar. A powerhouse performer, Ronu Majumdar is firmly rooted in the Maihar gharana which has also given shape to sturdy musical oaks like Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has been felicitated with numerous remarkable accolades for his mesmerizing performances worldwide.

     

    Ronuji has been awarded the ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2014’ for his contribution to Hindustani Instrumental Music – Flute. Ronuji has created an enviable niche for himself in the field of contemporary popular music which is exemplified by his Grammy Nomination in 1996. The audience appreciated the fine notes of Pt Majumdar giving huge round applause.

     

    Pt. Mishra also got huge appreciation whle perorming ‘ Thaika ‘ on Tabla. Disciple of Majumdar Mr. Het Ram also accompanied on Flute. Pt. Majumdar also presented Rag Pahari and ended the program with Mera Bhajan. Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Mr. Brij Behari Lal Butail was the Chief Guest in the function and he presented Himachali cap and Maflar to the artists.
