The Public Sector Telecom Operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) becomes the second largest mobile and telecom operator in the hill state with increasing its subscriber base up to 20 Lakh , a senior officer of the firm said today. The Chief General Manager of Himachal Pradesh BSNL circle Mr. S.K. Gupta told media persons that the telecom operator were opening 426 high power mobile towers switching over state of art technology and starting the Next Generation Network (NGN) in the state.
Mr. Gupta said that state would soon switch over to NGN in Shimla town after linking 12000 land lines with the mobile network to converge the technology would help to retain its wire lines phones and boost up the broadbands. We have increased to the speed of Broad band upto 100mbps to facilitate the Internet subscriber in the state moreover 426 high power Mobile towers were being installed in Shimla Circle to improve the signal strength and to resolve the call drop and disruption in the services.
It is challenging to provide hassle free strong signal at each nook and corner of this hill state due to hilly topography moreover efforts have been maintained to ensure the study and sturdy signal through out the state. BSNL was facing the challenge of payment of heavy charges for the telephone cables along the road sides as it could not lay over head cables owing to prevalent theft in the past.
Moreover the state was charging exorbitant road rage settlement charges to the tune of Rs 9 to 14 lakh along the road which is highest compared to any other states costing heavy prices to the firms. Efforts have been made to shift from 2G towers to 3G towers in the rural areas so that mobile data services could also get gradation in the State having highest telecom density.
