Shimla (Jan 3): Himachal Pradesh Police today changed its uniform as DGP and other high-ranking officers turned up in blue at their offices today. Talking to HimVani, Director General of Himachal Pradesh Police DS Minhas said that the decision was taken about six month back. He said that about 16,000 police officials in this state, irrespective of their rank, would follow this decisions gradually. He said that senior officers and others police officials who are not entitled to get departmental uniform have been asked to replace the old uniform abiding by the decision.
After implementing this decision, Himachal Pradesh police has become the third police organisation in the country, following West Bengal and Goa police, to replace khakhi for blue, introduced by the British in 1861. The state government had given green signal to change the uniform in 2008.
