Air traffic affected, roads blocked in Himachal

Shimla (Dec 30): Air connectivity was badly hampered in Himachal Pradesh due to fresh rains and snowfall as all four flights remained suspended today. Number of roads also became slippery for traffic due to snowfall in the state.

Two flights of Kingfisher and Indian Airlines to Kullu from Delhi were suspended following low visibility and overcast weather conditions prevailed in the valley since yesterday. Two other flights from Jubberhati airport of Shimla and Gagal airport of Dharamsala also remained suspended.

The 375-km-long Hindustan-Tibet National Highway has been closed for traffic since this afternoon after it got blocked at Kufri and Narkanda and near Recong-Peo due to snowfall. Meanwhile, Rampur-Recong Peo road linking Kinnaur district has also been blocked as buses were skidding on snow near Recong-Peo, delinking the Kinnaur district from rest of country.

Similarly, Theog-Kotkhai road was also closed for vehicular traffic at Kharapathar. Road communication to Lahaul and Spiti districts also closed after heavy snowfall on 13,050-foot-high Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass. Manali-Leh road has already been closed officially after November 15.

Chamba-Bharmaur, Chamba-Sanwal Chamba-Bairigharh, Chamba-Jot Chawari have been disrupted by heavy snowfall and landslides, deputy commissioner, Chamba, Divesh Kumar told HimVani.
