Heavy snowfall continues in high reaches of Himachal



Shimla (Dec 30): Heavy snowfall has been continuing in the high reaches of Himachal Pradesh along with incessant rainfall in rest of the state for the last 24 hours.

Tourist resorts Narkanda and Kufri reported 8 cm snowfall each, while Manali had 18 cm and its high reaches including Paltan, Koti and Solang Nalah received about one feet thick snowfall. In Shimla district, Theog-Kotkhai road has been blocked due to heavy snowfall at Kharapathar since this morning as about 10 cm snow has been occurred there. Khiraki area of Chopal received 8 cm snow.

SDM Kalpa Naresh Thakru said that Kinnaur district was worst hit by snowfall as Raksham and Chhitkul roads have been blocked by heavy snowfall as the latter has about 2 ft snow; Kalpa town experienced one feet thick snow, district headquarters Recong-Peo had 9-10 cm snowfall.

Thakur said that the second leg of Panchayati Raj bodies polling was badly hit by snowfall as it began on a dim note in the morning at 7 am. District Information officer Keylong in Lahual Spiti said that snowfall is continue in the high reaches of district and Keylong has been registered about 10 cm snowfall.

Report arriving from Chamba said that Sach pass has recorded one-and-half to two feet thick snowfall and Kugti village of Bharmaur had 14 cm snowfall since this morning. Killar town of Pangi sub-division and Malwas village of Churah sub-division have recorded 10 cm snowfall each, while Bharmaur recorded 8 cm.
Mighty Dhauladhar ranges, and Chota and Bada Bengal areas of Kangra district are also experiencing heavy snowfall. There are also reports of rainfall from Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Kullu and Mandi districts.
