Shimla: In order to overcome the language barrier in communicating with French tourists, who flock the state in comparatively larger numbers, the police personnels and Tourism staff of Himachal would now be given French classes.
Sources informed HimVani that a project worth Rs 2 lakh has been sanctioned for the purpose by the Union Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and would be executed by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC).
About 70 staffers of the police and tourism departments would be trained under the project and would be posted in various districts during the tourist season.
Of the three lakh tourists who visit the state every year, about 60,000 are French tourists, which is quiet a large number as compared to the tourists from other countries.
I think there is some mistake in the stats. Last year 72 lakh tourists visited Himachal out of which 18% very foreign tourists.
Good Initiative… The Tourist Office at Shimla on Scandel Point is very good in terms of providing information..
A waste of money. Most French speak enough English to get by, but they will not admit to it.
