Chamba: Accountant General of Himachal Pradesh has affixed penal-rent at Rs1.03 Crore on the Indo-Tibetan Boarder Police (ITBP) after considering its illegal possession of two rest houses, belonging to the state government. On the demand of ITBP in year 1998 Himahcal Pradesh public development work department’s and forest department’s rest houses at Tisa had been given to it on the rental basis for some time, but after passing time it neither paid the rent nor vacated the premises. Despite having correspondence by HPPWD, the tenant did not respond to it. But, after verifying the fact, AG team has found out that ITBP defaulted and it ordered to make out about Rs1.03 Crore payment in the account of HPPWD.
Superintendent Engineer of Chamba division of HPPWD D.S. Pathania told Himvani that after AG observation errant ITBP did not remit payment in department account and the matter has been sent to state government for further action. Meanwhile, when Himvani asked ITBP official in charge about the matter, he said that their battalion has already been posted at Chamba and he is unaware about the matter, so was not able to comment on it. On the other hand Deputy Commissioner Chamba Devesh Kumar told Himvani that the matter has been brought before the state government and it would ensure the recovery to be deposited by the ITBP.
