NAFED to supply onion to HP

    Shimla (Dec 23) With the skyrocketing onion prices, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) comes to the rescue by agreeing to supply Onion to Himachal on “No Profit No Los” basis, after procurements from different onion producing states of the country.

    On the request of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal NAFED had agreed to procure onion for sale in the state at the actual price to meet the demand of consumers.

    The Federation had fixed the maximum subsidized price of onion at Rs. 40 per kg. and more retail outlets were being opened in different states of the country to ensure supplies to the consumers.

    NAFED outlets had been directed to procure onions in Maharashtra and supply the same to the consuming states on immediate basis. State Government had already made an appeal to the stockists and retailers to ensure availability of onion and other essential commodities to the consumers at reasonable prices.

    The department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs had geared up its vigilance and raids were being conducted at places where complaints of hoarding were being received to ensure the stock availability to consumers through open sale and keep eye on overcharging.

    The price of Onion is keep as high as Rs 55-60 per kilogram in Shimla Market which is already rushed by number of tourist came here to enjoy the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
