Election commission swaps rose symbol with truck after BJP protests

Shimla (Dec 19): The state election commission in Himachal Pradesh has cancelled the rose symbol allotted to some candidates in panchayat elections after Bharatiya Janata Party leaders pointed out that it could mislead voters because of its resemblance with their lotus symbol. These candidates have now been given the truck symbol. The PRI elections are not being fought on party symbols. A record number of more than 90,000 candidates have filed nominations this time, around 7,000 more than previous time.
