Shimla (Dec 16): Hitting back at former ADGP BS Thind, who a day ago had charged the state government of selling the AIPIL factory at loss, Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragta today claimed Thind himself was a poor performer while he was AIPIL MD.

Condemning the statement of the former ADGP, Bragta said he had no right to accuse the BJP government of selling AIPIL unit for a paltry price as he himself was facing charges of corruption in the court as an FIR had been registered against him during the BJP rule on April 18, 2000 over misappropriation of funds as MD in the aforesaid unit.

However, Bragta accepted that after appreciation of Yen in the international market and depreciation of rupees lead to further increase in the burden of loan for AIPIL. He claimed that during Thind’s tenure as MD of AIPIL between 1991 and 95, the factory’s condition deteriorated further as he took loan of Rs 13 crore without any merit, which was later remitted by the state BJP government.

He said that working strength of Gumma factory was confined to 50 till 1991 which had gone up to 150 without merit when he left the firm. On being asked about the AIPIL unit deal, Bragta refused to divulge any details by terming the matter sub-judice and added that the government would file an affidavit before the high court soon.
