Shimla (Dec 10): Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Kurian Joseph today said that abstention from work by lawyers on the issue of shifting of courts was uncalled for. The High Court Bar Association had yesterday decided not to attend courts in support of Shimla District Bar Association to protest against shifting of the courts from the present complex to the newly constructed complex at Chakkar.
Addressing members of the Association, he said, “We the judges and the advocates are one family. I have assured the Shimla District Bar Association that all their demands would be fulfiled before shifting of the courts to Chakkar sub-urban area.” He added, “We are here to resolve the problems but the advocates should be reasonable and must face reality.” The High Court Bar Association thereafter held a general house meeting and decided not to abstain from the courts henceforth and requested the Chief Justice to make one Saturday a working day to compensate the loss for today’s abstention.
The High court bar association on December 9, 2010 had decided to abstain from the courts on December 10 in response to the call made by Shimla District Bar Association against the shifting of the courts from the present complex to the newly constructed complex at Chakkar.
Even yesterday members the Association had expressed that abstention from the court was not appropriate, but ultimately it was unanimously resolved to abstain from the courts to show solidarity with members of the District court.
