Tourism department carries out surprise inspection of hotels

Shimla: A spokesman of Tourism and Civil Aviation said here today that under the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development & Registration Act 2002, the department had carried out surprise inspection of hotels and restaurants to ensure hygienic conditions and protection against fleecing and overcharging of tourists. During the last two months, over 600 tourism units were inspected by a team of departmental officers and added that  the defaulters were challaned for Rs.five lakh. He said that during the inspection drive, HPTDC hotels & restaurants were inspected in various districts of the State. 210 units in Chamba district, Kullu 151 units, Kangra, Una and Hamirpur districts 177 units, Mandi  and Bilaspur 42 units,  Solan and Sirmaur 52 units and in Shimla district 35 tourism units were inspected including HPTDC hotels and restaurants.  He further said that on the basis of irregularities found under the act, the concerned units were challaned and warning to defaulting owners was issued and they were directed to take proper care of hygiene in their establishments.
