Himachal registers reduction in HIV /AIDS prevalence

Shimla: Exhaustive awareness campaigns for prevention of HIV/AIDS carried out in the state has resulted into sharp decline in the prevalence rate, which has come down from 0.36 to 0.03 percent and 2,07,360 persons had voluntarily got themselves examined for HIV/AIDS. This was stated by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while addressing state level function on World AIDS Day after he flagged off awareness rally from the historic Ridge Maidan Shimla to different directions, visited painting exhibition and inaugurated blood donation camp. Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh happened to be the last state of the country in HIV prevalence due to the mass awareness campaigns and allied activities organized all round the year.
