Court exempts Anand Sharma from personal appearance

Shimla: A local court here today exempted Union Industry and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma to appear personally before it, granting him relief from giving his statement under section 313 of CrPC where he has been charged in a defamation case by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in 2003. While pronouncing order over his application that was moved before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Shimla, seeking exemption from his personal appearance, the court accepted the application asking him to file his statement through his counsel now. The court has fixed next date of hearing on December 18, 2010.
