Shimla (Nov 26): Several hydroelectric power projects have been delayed due to various reasons, including protests by local residents and law and order problems, the government told the Lok Sabha today.
According to a Press and Information Bureau statement released here today, NHPC was presently executing 10 projects with a cumulative capacity of 4502 MW and they were under different stages of construction, the Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde told the House in a written reply. He said the main reasons for the delay have been geological surprises, contractual issue, natural disasters, local agitations and law and order problem among others.
He said that Parbati-I, Parbati-II and Chamera-III in Himachal Pradesh, Uri and Kishanganga in J&K, Teesta low dam-III power project in West Bengal, Subansiri Lower in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam were being delayed by aforesaid reasons.
