Chamba (Nov 26): A devastating fire broke out in tribal Tikari village under gram panchayat Luj in Pangi sub-division of Chamba district on Friday afternoon rendered as many as 40 families living in eight buildings homeless in the bitting cold, senior administrative officer confirmed.
Pangi resident commissioner Raghuvir Singh Verma said the fire broke out at around 2 pm in the afternoon and the flames were brought under control by local villagers and police jawans. Fire tenders could not reach the spot as there is no road link to the region. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials added.
Officials said victims have been provided Rs 50,000 as immediate relief and ration for one month. Local MLA and state Vidhan Sabha speaker Tulsi Ram expressed shock over the incident and asked the local administration to offer liberal assistance to the victims.
