HPSEB scam: Probe committee may recommend scrapping of private exam centres

Dharamsala (Nov 22): Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HPSEB) is likely to place its report on the exam scam in the state assembly during the coming winter session slated to be held here from December 6 to 9. A sources on condition of anonymity said that the high-powered government investigating committee has suggested the scraping of private examination centers, which are around 55, in the entire state. The committee has reportedly also suggested HPSEB to get its examination material printed at the government press.

Designated chairman of Himachal Pradesh School Education Board RS Gupta told media persons here that the three-member committee entrusted to probe the matter is likely to submit its reports to he government shortly. In the wake of the coming winter session, the opposition is likely to corner the government over the issue.

In September this year a scam was exposed indicating that around 300 students of various classes passed the exam without appearing in the same. So far 39 people have been arrested in this connection, including half-a-dozen Board employees. Earlier, the mastermind of the scam, Ashwini Dogra, and his accomplice Suresh Choudhry, were arrested along with few beneficiaries of the scam, and postal employees.
