Shimla: Himachal Pradesh University has become the first university in the country to start a five-year integrated course in tourism. Giving final approval to the MTA department, UGC has sanctioned Rs 39 lakh as aid for running this course. Students in HP desirous of joining the tourism industry will now get a chance to study the subject after class 12 itself. The department has also been asked to fill two additional posts in the teaching faculty for this. The credit for starting this course goes to Dr Bansal, former chairman of MTA Department, who gave this idea to UGC in 2006.
