Dharamsala (Nov 11): A sessions court in Dharamsala convicted all four medical college students accused of ragging their junior Aman Kachroo, who died later, in Tanda, and  handed out four years rigorous imprisonment for them, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 each.  The four MBBS students – Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma – were charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Aman Kachroo (19), a first-year MBBS student at Rajindra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda (Kangra), was thrashed by his seniors and he subsequently died on March 8, 2009. The fast-track court had resumed the trial against the accused students in August 2010 after they surrendered following cancellation of their bail applications.

A Supreme Court appointed committee had found rampant alcoholism on the campus and lack of anti-ragging norms as the reason behind Aman Kachroo’s death. The committee also recommended action against the college principal as it found him to be lackadaisical in dealing with Aman’s complaints.

  1. This is appaling. A mere 4 year term for a murder, it is unbelievable. Just because they are well connected people, they have been let off easy. What a shame for our legal justice system. A maximum of 10 yrs could have been given to them, bt 4 yrs is wow………

  3. i think the 'justice' part is lacking in the justice system here…. 4 years is what you get for peddling low-level drugs on the street. sucks.
