Shimla (Nov 3): Amid yesterday’s Delhi High Court’s ruling not to allow office bearers of sports bodies in their posts after a certain age limit, Vidya Stokes’s exit from Hockey India can be termed as a safe escape as her resignation came just a week before the ruling.
The octogenarian leaders who has left HI’s top post in a surprising move on October 27, 2020, has made a lucky escape from the ruling of Delhi High Court, which rejected sport associations’ plea to stay the government order of fixing age limit and tenures for sports officials. Stokes had announced his departure from this post after she has been elected in August this year, defeating former captain Pargat Singh in a fiercely contested election.
It is worthwhile to mention here that she had managed to win despite pressure from inside the Congress Party and also the hockey association, and now her departure could only be termed as a major relief and an act of wisdom.
