60% polling in Hamirpur



Hamirpur: About 60 percent voter turnout was recorded during the Lok Sabha by-election for the Hamirpur Parliamentary seat on Saturday.
Hamirpur deputy commissoner Rajneesh Kumar said that polling was peaceful and no case of any type was reported from any part of the district.Polling was slow during the hot afternoon but it picked pace towards the evening. Women voters ournumbered men in casting votes. at the polling stations and long queues were reported from many polling stations.
There were 11, 75,238 voters in the constituency spread out over 1,372 polling booths in Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur as well as Dehra sub-division of Kangra.
There are six candidates in the fray, the main contest being between BJP’s Prem Kumar Dhumal and congress’ Ram Lal Thakur.
