Waknaghat: Land acquisition appears to be emerging as a major hurdle for the state government in carrying out developmental projects. After finding it difficult to find appropriate land for the proposed international airport, the HP government’s latest plan to build an ultra-modern township near Wahnaghat has run into rough weather. On Thursday, four panchayats from the area convened a meeting, headed by renowned environmentalist and head of Himalayan Environment and Conservation Society Dr Anil Joshi, and resolved not to give up their agricultural land.
About 5,500 bighas of land are to be acquired for the project and villagers were recently served notices for the same. Villagers allege that agricultural land is also being acquired for the project along with barren land. The panchayats also decided to stage a dharna at the DC office in Solan on June 20 if no action is taken immediately.
Some days back, a similar protest was registered by villagers in Baddi area where they alleged that despite barren land being available, the government was acquiring their agricultural land for developing an industrial park.
