Shimla (Oct 22): High reaches of Himachal Pradesh experienced moderate to heavy spells of snowfall as cloudy sky and thundery weather conditions are prevailing in the state. The high reaches of Keylong in Lahaul Spiti district and Kullu district received moderate to heavy spells of snow and rain lashed others parts of the state. Manali town received season’s first snowfall this afternoon as about 5 cm snow was recorded in the tourist town.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded in between Manali and Keylong as Rohtang (13050ft) pass has about 2 feet thick snowfall, Number of apple-laden trucks from Lahaul valley have also been trapped in between Keylong and Manali. Bharmaur and high reaches of Chamba district are also having snowfall since this afternoon, effecting power and communication in the district.
Report received from Dharamsala said that Dhauladhar ranges of Kangra district had moderate spell of snowfall and thundershowers in downstream areas. Similarly, areas around Kinnaur-Kailesh ranges also had light to moderate spell of snow and rainfall.
This capital town and its surrounding areas also experienced low-speed wind and thundershowers. Shimla recorded 10 mm rain today, Bhuntar 24 mm, Sundernagar 21 mm, Dharamsala 18 mm, Nurpur 4 mm, Paonta 2 mm Saloni 2 mm, and Keylong 1mm. The Met office said that rain or snow are likely to occur at some parts of the state in the next 24 hours.
