Manali: After incurring the ‘wrath’ of local deities, the Rs 3,500-crore Ski Village project seems to be heading for some fresh trouble from environmentalists. As per Lal Chand Katoch of Jan Jagran and Vikas Sanstha, prominent environmentalists Sunder Lal Bahuguna, known for his resistance against Tehri Dam project, and Medha Patkar, who has spearheaded the Narmada Bachao Andolan, would be participating in a rally to be held here in the third week of June.
Jan Jagran and Vikas Sanstha is already carrying out a signature campaign highlighting the adverse impact of the ski project on the environment. It claims to have secured at least 9,000 signatures till now, which would be sent to the Prime Minister and President of the country. Bahuguna and Patkar would also visit sites where large hydro power projects are being built, to access the damage already caused to the ecology of the place.
The schedule for the protests is as follows
June 17 Sunder Nagar (Dist. Mandi) Protest against proposed cement plant
June 18 Ram Bagh, near Manali (Dist. Kullu) Rally against the proposed Himalayan Ski Village project.
