Himachal postpones paragliding event

Shimla (Oct 21): On the request OF foreign participants, Himachal Pradesh Sports Authority has postponed the paragliding championship slated for October 29 to November 1 at Bir-Billing in Kangra district.

Himachal Pradesh youth and sports department joint director Suman Rawat told HimVani that the four-day championship would now be held from November 11. “The championship was delayed mainly on the request of foreign pilots, besides there were some logistic problems too,” she said. Rawat added that most of foreign pilots complaining that due to the ban on flying in Bir-Billing in the wake of recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi, they were not able to practice before the event. Rawat said even the organisers, deployed in CWG, were too busy in Delhi and could not complete the necessary arrangements for the paragliding event.

About 50 pilots from across the globe, prominently from the US, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, New Zealand and Britain, are expected to take part in the event.
