Shimla (Oct 16): Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Kurian Joseph has asked the people to discharge their fundamental duties with an utmost sense of devotion and dedication to meet the aspirations of every section of the society.
He said that it was the foremost and fundamental duty of every citizen to uphold the rule of law and contribute towards nation building and patriotism. He was addressing a seminar on the Fundamental Duties of Citizens here on Friday, organised jointly by the Himachal Chapter of Public Relations Society of India and SEWA Trust of Shimla.
More than 500 participants drawn from different walks of life took part in the three-hour long interaction and discussions on the subject. Justice Joseph said that every citizen should contribute towards the betterment of society and tenets of quality, commitment and character of the people.
Expressing concern over the sharp degradation in human values, Justice Kurian Joseph said that aberrations had crept into human behaviour and there was immediate need to bring attitudinal changes. Emphasising upon the growing trend of irresponsible behaviour among children, he said that it was our duty to inculcate new values in them by regular counselling and dialogue.
ADGP SR Mardhi said that beauracracy should be more sensitive towards the common-man and only an upright and honest set of people could serve the society with a missionary zeal. Ajay Geol, a lawyer practicing at the high court said that abject poverty could only be eradicated by spreading education in all the corners of the country. He said that every citizen owes responsibility towards the society and indeed by way of public interest litigations citizens could discharge their duties towards the society.
