Mandi (Oct 8): Additional Sessions Judge, Mandi, while camping at Karsog yesterday, sentenced Bhim Singh, a resident of village Khamaro of Karsog sub-division, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for murdering his minor daughter. The convict was further sentenced under Section 309 of IPC to undergo simple imprisonment of one year for trying to commit suicide. Both the sentences will run concurrently.

As per facts of the case, on the intervening night of June 20-21, 2009, the convict after reaching his house at around 2 am under the influence of liquor, asked his mother about his daughter Neha (7) and his son Dinesh, who were sleeping. Afterward he started beating his daughter with a wooden stick. Hearing the commotion, villagers also assembled there, but seeing a crowd build up the convict ran away from the spot and climbed a electric pole and tried to commit suicide by electrocution.

Villagers took both of them (convict and his daughter) to Civil Hospital, Karsog, where the girl died due to injures. Police later arrested the convict after registering a case under Section 302, and 309 of IPC. The prosecution examined 22 witnesses to
prove its case.
