Shimla (Oct 4): A Himachal Pradesh court here today didn’t take cognizance of the chargesheet filed against Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh in a corruption case registered against him by the state Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau.

The court of special judge BL Soni asked the state counsel to provide a certified copy of the Himachal Pradesh High Court order and listed the matter for next hearing on October 6.

The high court had dismissed Virbhadra Singh’s petition on October 1 to transfer the corruption case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Within hours of the high court ruling, the state moved the trial court and submitted chargesheet against Virbhadra Singh, his wife, Pratibha Singh and others.

A division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Deepak Gupta observed that it was not a fit case for transferring the probe to the CBI at this point of time.

Virbhadra Singh had sought the case transfer to the CBI under Article 226 of the constitution, which deals with special powers of high courts.
