Shimla: A select committee panel discussed the much-debated Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions (Regulatory Commission) Bill-2010 as it met here on Wednesday. The Bill was referred to the committee by the state assembly on August 23 during the last monsoon session.

The committee was chaired by state education minister ID Dhiman and attended by Harshvardhan Chahaun (Cong-Shillai), Suresh Bhardwaj (BJP-Shimla), Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Cong-Nadaon), Ranvir Sharma (BJP-Kotkhailur), Renu Chadda (BJP-Chamba) and Inder Singh (BJP-Sarkaghat).

The Bill has come to the select committee as the Opposition members in the state assembly had expressed apprehensions about its effectiveness to put a check on mushrooming up of poor-standard private universities in the state.
