Shimla (Sept 20): Inclement weather conditions prevailing in tribal Kinnaur district today claimed two live as boulders hit two members of a family this morning in Miru village near Sangla. Meanwhile, high reaches of the district experienced heavy unseasonal snowfall and rain, affecting ripened apple, potato, oat and pea crops.
Talking to HimVani, local MLA Tejwant Negi informed that rolling boulders hit two persons in Miru village near Sangla sub-division, who died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Jeet Ram (35) and Sahil(6).
Kinnaur deputy commissioner Mamta Chadhary told HimVani on phone that unseasonal snow and rain in the district have created havoc as many villages have been cut off from the rest of the nation. She said that many houses have been damaged as landslides and boulders hit them after rain or snowfall in the district.
According to a report, as many as 20 shepherds along with 4,000-5,000 sheep and goat herds have reportedly been trapped in Ranikanda mountain ranges. However, the district administration has denied any such report and no rescue operation has been started so far. The Sangla-Chitkul road has also been damaged due to flashflood the area.
Snowfall continues in the high reaches around Chitkul village, while Kalpa received 36.4 mm rainfall with a minimum temperature of 6.2 degree Celsius.
