Mandi district reports 1st swine flu case this year

Mandi: A suspected swine flu case was reported for the first time this year in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh as a man with symptoms of swine flu was admitted here on Friday, an official said.

According to medical officer TC Mahant, Jai Chand, ‘pardhan’ of Ner panchayat in Balh village, was admitted to CHC Ratti with symptoms of swine flu and was later referred to Fortis hospital in Mohali.  Mahant said residents of Ner panchayat were being screened for H1N1 virus. Meanwhile, a consignment of Tami flu tablets has been dispatched to the affected area.

State swine flu surveillance officer Vinod Mehta told HimVani that there have been 18 deaths due to swine flu in the state and about 56 cases have tested positive for H1N1 virus. 10 people belonging to this hill state had been killed by H1N1 outside the state.
