ABVP blocks road to protest privatisation of education

Shimla: On the nation-wide call given by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP), its Himachal Pradesh unit staged a protest in Shimla today as hundreds of activist gathered at Victory tunnel and blocked the highway for an hour.

About 170 activists of ABVP sat on a dharna on the one side of victory tunnel, disrupting traffic movement. However, the administration allowed the protest even at the cost of causing inconvenience to commuters. There are reports of similar agitations from other districts as well.

ABVP’s state wing has been opposing the state government for allowing a number of private universities to mushroom in the state in the name of making Himachal an education hub.
