Hundreds of apple-laden vehicles stranded on Kharapathar-Theog road

Shimla: A massive landslide has blocked vehicular traffic on the Rohru-Theog highway near Kharapathar, stranding hundreds of apple-laden trucks on the road, police source said today.

Another report received form Nahan (Sirmour district) said that as many as eight shops and one tipper were swept away by Giri river when a big landslide came down near Giri river bridge between Dadahu and Renuka last night as strong water current made the entire hill-side to slide. This has caused a loss more than Rs 50 lakh but no loss of life was reported since the landslide occurred during night hours. Sirmour deputy commissioner  PD Chauhan said that JCB machines have been put to service to remove debris at the earliest.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy drowned in swollen Shalani rivulet at Nerva in Shimla district today while on a sports trip to participate in a school tournament. The victim, Pankaj, belonged to Bhatipur area of Kumersen.
