Shimla: State Government is raising demand to include crop protection activities ‘Rakha’ under the MNREGA provisions to save the crops from monkey and wild boar menace. This was revealed by Chief Minister, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, while addressing progressive farmers of district Hamirpur on the occasion of 61st District- level Van Mahotsava at Tauni Devi after he launched Aloevera plantation campaign in the district today. He said that 8,09,600 plants would be distributed amongst the farmers for plantation of Aloevera over an area of 736 kanal. Initially the campaign would be carried out in 21 gram panchayats of the area by 386 progressive farmers who would be a source of inspiration to rest of the farming community.
He said that the State Government had entered into an agreement with Patanjali Yog Peeth, Haridwar, which would be purchasing 15 kinds of herbal produce from the farmers of the State. He appealed to the people to join hands in massive plantation to make Hamirpur district leader in herbal cultivation in the state. Chief Minister said, the state government was committed to protect the crops of farmers from wild animals which had resulted in abandonment of cultivable land, reducing the farm yield. He said that monkey sterilization campaign was in progress and so far 53,000 monkey had been sterilized in different parts of the State.
Prof. Dhumal also said that government was giving priority to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry sectors keeping in view its importance. He said, both the sectors were bound to give boost to income generation activities in the rural areas since major chunk of the population was dependent on it for livelihood. He further said that Rs. 1,096 crore Deen Dayal Kisan Baagwan Samridhi Yojna, Doodh Ganga Yojna and Organic Fertilizers Schemes had been envisioned to give boost to economic activities in rural areas of the State and people needed to take benefit of such schemes. He also pointed out that environment protection had emerged as the need of the hour and government was laying special emphasis on it.
