Mandi: Perhaps for the first time in Himachal Pradesh, records of a government department and physical inspection of developmental work being carried out by agencies concerned would be done under a provision of the Right to Information Act.

On August 28, residents of Darbad village in Dharampur block and activists of Mandi RTI Bureau will carry out inspection of records and also complete ground inspection in a particular ward as per provision of Section 2(d)(d) of the RTI Act. Earlier villagers had sought information on developmental work being done in the panchayat for the last six months and had found gross irregularities. Following this, at least 10 complaints were filed with the DC office regarding these irregularities.

On August 3, Mandi RTI Bureau member Bhupinder Singh and local villagers had filed an application to inspect records under the said provision, for which the administration had set August 28 as the date. Now complaints made to the DC office would be cross-checked with the records for further action.
