CBI nabs Army officer selling diesel from stock

Shimla: A CBI team caught a senior Army officer while  was selling diesel from the stocks in Lahaul & Spiti  district in Himachal Pradesh, a CBI official said here today.

CBI superintendent of police R Upasak told media persons that Captain  Vikalp Purohit of the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF), a wing of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), posted at Koksar in Lahaul % Spiti district, was caught red-handed on Friday by a team of CBI posing as decoy customers. The diesel was meant for the BRO.

“On a tip-off,  the CBI team laid a trap on the accused when two decoy customers projected themselves as contractors of the public works department, entered negotiations with the accused regarding bulk purchase of fuel. They also bargained the price and later caught him,” Upasak said.

‘We have information that some Army officials have been selling diesel meant for the forces,”he said. “BRO authorities in Manali and Shimla have been informed about the incident and Purohit has been summoned to the CBI office here,” he added.
