Mandi: At least 37 pilgrims are feared killed and 23 others injured as a truck carrying them fell into a gorge at Hutnalha near Riwalsar, 18 km from here, police sources said. SP Mandi Sonal Agnihotri said that a truck carrying 70 pilgrims rolled down the road at 5.30 pm today. The bodies were being retrieved from the spot. The 35 injured were rushed to Zonal Hospital Mandi. The ill-fated truck was returning from Gurukotha to Sidhyani when the accident occurred. More detail are awaited.
Meanwhile, chaos was witnessed at the district hospital in Mandi. There was no coordination among the hospital staff even as the lone orthopaedic sugeon struggled to attend patients. “It is a pity that none of the private practioners (doctors) in the town turned up for any help. We saw two persons die on the same bed because they were not attended upon,” said a rescue person.
