Kangra: A red ribbon club was established at Laureate College, Kathog, in Jwalmukhi on International Youth Day to mark the launch of a 20-day-long AIDS awareness campaign.

The red ribbon club scheme encourages dialogue among the youth and empowers them to be leaders, to have a voice and therefore be able to protect themselves from HIV. HPSACS has been trained peer educators who mobilise young people giving the youth an opportunity to discuss their challenges.

There are over 100 such clubs for youth in Kangra district (40 in educational institutions, 15 in youth and sports, 45 in Nehru Yuva Kendras), which provide a platform for open discussion and communication amongst youth. Five more clubs will be opened this month as part of the International Youth Day celebrations. Kangra has 1,188 HIV positive people out of a total of 4,641 in the state.
