Shimla: In order to help apple growers in smooth transportation of apple trucks, the Himachal Pradesh government has ordered the Chinese company to stop cutting work on the Theog-Kotkhai-Hatkoti-Rohru state highway with immediate effect.

Shimla deputy commissioner JS Rana said that because of construction work on the road, debris in large scale has accumulated, which is resulting in heavy traffic jams for long hours. The maintenance work for the road has been entrusted to the state public works department temporally. Apple season is in full swing in upper Shimla, but because of heavy rain and debris on the road has made apple transportation hazardous. The DC said that the firm has been asked to its their idle machinery, especially earthmovers and pokelanes, on open places so that they do not halt traffic movement.

The firm had resumed construction on this road recently after remaining off for nearly two months as the Chinese employees had to go back as the Union home ministry had cancelled their visas.

Meanwhile, Left wing Himachal Kisan Sabha has for long been raising this issue with the state government for long, demanding smooth transportation of apple-laden trucks and vehicles on the road.
