Mandi: The Himachal Pradesh government is exploring the possibilities of setting up a handloom cluster in Mandi district on the lines of one operating from Kullu. A survey is already being conducted at Gohar and the finding will be forwarded to the Central Handloom Development Commission. The 1.5 crore project is to be sponsored by the Union government and will give employment to about 2,000 artisans. At present there are two semi-government bodies – Himbunkar and Bhuttico – operating in the state to promote handloom artisans.
