Shimla: NJPC has started work on increasing the height of its reservoir at Nathpa by 10 metres from its current height of 65 mts, as a measure to safeguard the project from floods. This will now double the length of the reservoir to two kilometres. This exercise will not displace any villagers as the land to be submerged is not inhabited.
The ministry of forest and environment has recently given permission to raise the height of the reservoir. Ironically, earlier a dam was proposed at Khabb in the masterplan to reduce the risk of floods but at that time the environment ministry had declined to issue an NOC.
