Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has issued Letter of Intent (LoIs) to three private players in the education sector for initiating the process of setting up private universities in the state.

Amity, Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) and Chandigarh-based Chitkara Education Trust are the first to be issued LOIs nine months after the government decided to open the state to private universities.

Presently, there is only one private university in the state – Jaypee University of Information Technology. The said parties will now get one year to raise required infrastructure before asking for permission to start classes from the government.
