Chinese firm to complete Theog-Kotkhai-Hatkoti-Rohru road by 2012

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh public works minister Gulab Singh Thakur today said that upgradetion work on the Theog-Kotkhai-Hatkoti-Rohru road by the Chinease M/s Longjain Road and Bridge Company is slated to be completed by 2012.

Thakur today inspected the road being upgraded at a cost of Rs 228.26 crore and expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. The minister said that upgradation work on this road would be further speeded up with the setting up of crushers, hot mix plant and wet mix macadam. He said that construction of bridges and culverts have to be accelerated so as to catch up with time. He said that visas to Chinese officials of the company and engaging 380 local work force would further accelerate the pace of execution of work.

He directed the officials to ensure construction of breast walls in the landslide prone areas so that these do not create any hindrance in flow of traffic during rainy season. Earlier, up-gradation work on this road was delayed as Union home ministry had cancelled visas of official engaged in this work, which were later restored after interference of the state government.
The road is considered lifeline for apple producing areas like Jubbal, Kotkhai, Chopal and Rohru.
